I'm really excited that my super talented friend May McDonough, has enlisted my help in making an animated music video for her. However, the price of making the video has become too much for us to handle. So, we are using Kickstarter to ask for some support to raise $2,500.

May has also decided to give out fabulous prizes like CDs, posters, and even a seat onstage for one of her performances!

I'm really excited to be a part of "Los Angeles, I'm Yours" at Space15Twenty Gallery. The show is being put together by Bobby Solomon from Kitsune Noir and the nice folks over at Poketo. The show is a celebration of Los Angeles' Flea markets and all the artists will be working on found objects.

Art Center Grad Show

It took me a while to get these photos up. I graduated from Art Center about a week ago and I've been busy cleaning, resting and catching up with friends.

this is a picture of me next to my wall at the grad show. I made a video installation to go on top of my astronaut sculpture and on top of some found boom boxes so they look like they are coming to life. All the white on the astronaut is a light projection, he is painted all black.

Almost my whole family came up to the school to see all the grad's work.

Me and one of my favorite people, Jeni Yang. Jeni was gracious enough to take all these pictures for me while I tried to manage my family.

Here's a projection installation I just finished last week. It's a model for a Kitty Panopticon. The video is pretty dark but there are five cat carriers around the Central surveillance tower to keep the kittens in line.

I'm working with a graphic designer right now who is doing a rebranding project of Penguin Classics. The project is pretty cool I got to pick whatever Penguin book I want and represent it anyway that I wanted. I picked "The Red Badge of Courage" by Stephen Crane because I loved this book in middle school. Also, I remember how much time I spent looking through old Civil War photographs in textbooks. There's something about that war that conjured up the most haunting images.
Anyway, here are the first two of the book illustration. I have to do about five more and a cover image. Should be pretty fun.

I've been collecting old boom boxes for a while. This is why this project was so much fun. I hung 4 boom boxes and made 11 animations that would be projected on top of them. The boom boxes spin and they grow legs and dance. Also, in one part, Kate (my beautiful girlfriend) dances on top of the radios while you wear 3d glasses. I'm not all that excited about all of the animations, but I like working this way and I'm definitely going to do more installations like this in the future.

I've been really busy lately ...working 2 freelance jobs...one doing storyboards and the other doing t-shirt designs...Pretty fun stuff...and also i've been looking at stuff to get inspired for the wrap magazine tds ill be in next term. I'm designing a book for it and its filled with artwork that I have been pushing out over the term thats dealing with the sex trade and exploitation of women and children. It's pretty heavy stuff and i picked the subject because I've been so involved in making those posters for the U.N. lately and the sex slave issue seems to be one of the saddest issues...there is also a ton of resources on the subect that'll really make you sick. Anyhow, at least the artwork was fun to produce. here are some of the spreads in progress... there are gonna be about 20 pages when im done...

This is another anti child prostitution poster im working on right now...so far i've gotten some really good feedback but i still need to rework the shadow of the little girl and maybe add some type.

here are two paintings i just finished tonight...its pretty fun to connect pieces with simple color pallettes...I think it makes work look a lot more unified and more sophisticated in general.

here's my scholarship wall from monday...it took a lot of time to hang that big painting that high. I hope they give me some money to make it worth my time and back pains.

Some of the comps for posters and installations my group and I have done for the UN conference in July. I think most of our work is really strong and i think that we have a really good chance and being selected to produce a lot of the posters for the conference. Sweet!

Here's my plan for a silk screen i should be making tomorrow in class...if i can get the transparencies printed tomorrow morning...booya!

I've been trying to work intuitively lately but trying to keep a theme in the back of my mind...since I've been doing so much work with human trafficking and child prostitution lately anyway i decided to try to have that be the theme of this piece. Its pretty fun though, I can make these ones much more abstract than the human rights posters that should read to a casual passerby instantly.

For another project i had to design a skate board deck and get it produced...I just sent in the artwork today and i should be getting the board back in about 3 weeks hopefully....but here is a preview of the design. I'll take pictures of the deck when it comes.

This term has been so busy...I've barely had a chance to breath. Gonna try to put more stuff up soon from what I've been doing. Plus, I'm trying to put together a portfolio site...it doesn't really impress potential employers to have them look at your work on a blog. anyway...

this next poster is to illustrate everyones right to clean water and how important it is that nations that have the power to help poorer nations that are suffering from famine and draught step in to help.

This is a work in progress screen shot of one of my styleboards i have to do for storyboarding for motion... I have to do 3 of these puppies each going off the idea of time travel...In this one the kid is pretending he can time travel.

I've realised that in that class i have been doing mostly collage so in these last few styleboards i do I'm really gonna try to push my illustration in them... granted all to the green stuff is collaged in...get over it

this one was pretty fun to work on. I started by just making a rorschach blot and then painting on top of it i got pretty lucky with the shapes that I got from the original ink blot. It's an illustration of an excerpt from a book that my teacher assigned us about a male ghost, a girl in a ball dress, and a spider. the whole passage had a creepy feel to it so i decide to do the piece in black and white. It's pretty big too 27"x 37" so that was a fun part too.

unexpectedly busy weekend... I was trying to get a new silk screen to work and i kept running into all sorts of issues. I'll have scans of the prints later. Also, i had to finish my storyboarding for motion midterm. We had to do a personal set of storyboard on a personal experience mine is on what its like to be a kid in the middle of a divorce. I tried to show how it feels by having the home literally falling apart around the camera and having the children's drawings being part of what helped the house burn down. I geuss thats because kids seem to always feel responsible for the split. It gets trickier and trickier to put these together when you're trying to work with photo real elements.

here is some style boards i had to do for smart car i had to do a couple weeks ago. I totally forgot about them until i had to post them for class. They're kinda silly but i like them.

The first one was a concept for a smart car commercial that begins with a robot attacking a city and then a team of smart cars fly in to the rescue.

the second commercial plays off of the smart car name and so it starts out with a shot of the brain with little bolts of electricity suggesting firing synapses then the camera flies in to a fold in the brain to show a smart car driving around.

This was pretty fun...we had to composite a 2d image into an existing video so i made a little rocker character and threw him into an aerosmith video...The masking is kinda sloppy because I only had a couple of hours to do it in and Steven Tyler has way too much hair to get a clean mask out of anyway...I think you get the point.

Ok...so I had to come up with an ipod commercial for my storyboarding class and then in the last critique my teacher decided that my idea could be turned into two different commercials...so i just finished redesigning the first commercial and now i have to design a whole second one. hooray for twice as much work as the rest of the class! So, here's the idea...It's based on the idea that Ipods are as unique as people are since everyone can put whatever they want into it and its very unlikely that the songs on your ipod would be the same as Joe Shmoe down the street. So This girl puts on her headphones and becomes surrounded by her own little jazz world (because she listens to jazz alot). Tomorrow I have to start building another ad around a guy that listens to rock and roll...i haven't decided if im going to do hair metal or punk yet...

So, it's been a while. I'm not so good with commitments like taking vitamins or updating this blog thing. Anyway, tomorrow is the last day of the term and it could not have come soon enough. I just have two more classes to get through, a critique on my paintings with Bob Kato and a brutal type test. I have to memorize 37 fonts or so and be able to identify them without a word box!
On the bright side my motion final is finally done after a few sleepless nights. It was a show opening for Yo! mtv raps with a science theme to introduce the "elements" of hip hop. Graffiti, break dancing, MCing, and DJing. I presented it last night and I got alot of positive feedback and ideas for how i can make my stuff better in Motion 2. I'll have more updates coming soon ill try to post my other final projects and the ones I do over the break.

I don't know why i thought it was okay to mingle the mammoth, dinosaurs, and a panther. I mean these dinosaurs are obviously from the cretaceous period and were extinct long before either the mammoth or the panther came around. Kids are so stupid.

I don't even know what is going on here. It has something to do with Mike Tyson's Punchout on Nintendo.
